NEXT MEETING

SATURDAY 3 DECEMBER AT 10 AM

GRAND AUDITORIUM OF THE NATIONAL INSTITUTE OF ART HISTORY

Gersande Eschenbrenner Diemer, Univ. Alcalá de Henares (Spain), ArScAn UMR 7041 Nanterre, Director of the Medjehu Project

The Medjehu project: redrawing the economic and social history of wood crafts along the Nile

The Medjehu project – deriving from the ancient Egyptian word “Medjehu”, which means “carpenter” – develops a comprehensive and interdisciplinary study of wood craftsmanship in ancient Egypt by crossing the perspectives of different specialists and research fields. By combining archaeological, archaeometric, artistic and historical studies, it is possible to redesign this particularly rich and yet still little-known artistic landscape. This conference is an opportunity to present the latest results of the activities and field missions carried out in Egypt, from Cairo to Aswan, by the various members of the Medjehu project team and thus to highlight the artistic, economic and historical networks wood along the Nile.

Frédéric Payraudeau, Department of Art History and Archaeology, Sorbonne University, UMR 8167

A stele of the great chief Nimlot at Karnak and Egyptian foreign policy at the end of the XXIe dynasty

Presentation of an unpublished document from the end of the XNUMXst dynasty. An oracular stele in favor of the great chief of the Ma, Nimlot, found in multiple fragments in the temple of Amun at Karnak shows the important status of this character in the country. The text of this monument also seems to evoke Egyptian military activity in Lower Nubia at the end of the dynasty, at a very poorly documented period.
