The French Society of Egyptology created in Paris by Egyptologists, is a learned society which will celebrate its Centenary in 2023!
The wish of the founding members was to "group Egyptologists and people interested in the study of Egypt from its origins to the first centuries of the Hegira in order to allow them to exchange their views on all questions concerning Egypt, to maintain relations both with scholars specialists from other countries and with the non-French public. initiated into Egyptology and to publish works relating to these studies ... " (statutes of 1923, art. Ier). Egyptologists today do not see things differently: the association offers its members to come meet scientists at the origin of often spectacular discoveries and always of great interest for the discipline.
Three meetings per year, followed by a friendly drink, allow specialists from all over the world to come and present their work in progress and their recent discoveries, in French; these meetings (relayed by video) are now supplemented by video-conferences, the dates of which are interspersed between these moments of conviviality.
The minutes of the meetings in attendance and the full text of the papers are published in the two annual issues of the Bulletin of the French Society of Egyptology (BSFE).
The Company also publishes the Review of Egyptology (RdE), at the rate of one issue per year. Reference in the discipline, RdE has an international vocation and offers around twenty articles by researchers in specialized fields as varied as linguistics, philology, archeology, art history, historiography ...
