Practical information to go to the Tessé Museum from the train station (about 15 minutes)

- Take Square 8 May 1945 and continue on 70 meters;

- Tramway PublicTransportLink T2 dir. Bellevue-Haut-de-Coulaine. Stop Stone cross

- Take Rue des Maillets (D301) and continue on 80 meters

- To turn left Rue Julien Bodereau and continue on 5 meters

- Take a right Paderborn Avenue (D301) and continue on 130 meters.

- Arrival at the Tessé Museum (2 Paderdorn Avenue).

Since 2001, a space of 600 m² in the basement of the museum presents reconstructions full-scale tombs of Queen Nefertari, great royal wife of Pharaoh Ramses II (v. 1250 BC) and Sennefer, governor of Thebes under Amenophis II (see 1420 BC). These two sets unique in France, visible next to the Egyptian collections, were designed thanks to a set of photographs made by the Kodak-Pathé Foundation and donated to the museum in 1988.


The visit will be guided and commented by Hélène Bouillon, Heritage Curator

and Mr. Frédéric Payraudeau, Senior Lecturer at Sorbonne University.

Today's program :

11h-13h: visit of the Egyptian collections at the Tessé Museum.

13h-14h30: lunch (remember to let us know if you want to participate).

From 14h30 lat SFE suggests a free ride in the Cité Plantagenêt and / or a visit to the Saint-Julien cathedral (open until 19h), or a visit to the Plantagenêt Square (museum of archeology and history of the Sarthois territory of Prehistory at the end of Middle Ages).

These rates only concern the right of access to the Tessé Museum. Transport costs and access to other monuments are left to the participants.

- Friday 27 April 2018: Scanning Seti, at the Antikenmuseum Basel und Sammlung Ludwig Basel, very nice visit under the leadership of Mrs. Florence Mauric Barberio whose availability and erudition delighted the participants that the transport strike had not discouraged!

- The 27 February 2015: Animals and pharaohs, The French Society of Egyptology organized a special visit to the Louvre-Lens exhibition (99, rue Paul Bert 62 300 Lens) on Friday 27 February 2015 to 13h45. Madame Hélène Guichard, chief curator at the Egyptian Antiquities Department of the Louvre and curator of this exhibition dedicated to the animal kingdom in ancient Egypt will do us the honor to accompany us for this event.

- Summer 2014: The Obelisk's Journey - Luxor / Paris (1829-1836) : two visits to this exhibition organized at the National Maritime Museum (Palais de Chaillot Trocadéro) on Saturday 7 June, accompanied by Mrs. Elisabeth David.

- 2012 Spring: The artistic production of late Egypt, at the Jacquemart-André Museum: four visits to this exceptional exhibition were led by Miss Raphaële Meffre and Mr. Olivier Perdu.

- February 2012: The statuary of the New Kingdom according to the collections of the Louvre, thematic visit to the Museum under the leadership of Mr. Christophe Barbotin.
